The current marketing power of the carriers dictates that mobile music sales volumes are currently with the carrier dependent model. Yet transparency of reporting and leakage is a key issue with carrier dependent models. Oplayo’s carrier dependent solutions bring a new level of transparency and accuracy of reporting into the process by reversing the process so a carrier is invoiced every time a piece of content is taken from the content owners server space.
The labels content assets would be hosted within the Oplayo Managed Media Service or OMMS as we like to call it. It would be white labeled as the client sees fit and would also contain a CMS so the client can access and upload and take down content, check content delivery/sales in real-time and set permission levels on a territory by territory basis. This OMMS service is carrier grade being built by Nokia and in some instances exceeds carriers current delivery and reporting infrastructure.
D2C ‘off-deck’ models like Oplayo’s Java based ODPs provide a unique opportunity for artists and labels alike to develop a direct contact which can be updated on time-lines dictated by the client. Label or artist would also receive consumer data including;
- mobile phone number
- handset type
- ODP pages accessed and regularity etc
- previous purchase history
Previous and current music industry clients include; Kylie, Ozzy Ozborne, HIM, Joss Stone, Pop Idol and many others. Oplayo ODPs enable music industry asset owners to receive 100% of every content sale, real-time reporting and customer user data currently not available with most alternative models. Labels should be looking at ODPs as a direct extension of an artists website and they should also treat them as a similar asset to an artists website except be thinking of it on a mobile level. All Oplayo ODPs would be delivered via and have the same CMS system as the previously mentioned OMMS hosting service.
Through its large and unique relationships with over 70 carriers directly and indirectly, Oplayo can also act as a content aggregator if the client decides they also require a mobile content aggregation service in certain markets. Obviously all content delivered by Oplayo as an aggregation service would be undertaken using our OMMS hosting system. The transparency and accurate real-time reporting provided by Oplayo’s OMMS makes doing business with previously no go territories with high piracy problems viable.
